Now that I’m far away I must confess that i didn’t believe this phrase I heard at the beginning of my stay in Lendava which says that “foreigners, after a while, tend to like Lendava so much” that they don’t want to leave, or that they come back.
When I first arrived in this little town, i felt lost and alone. I wondered what did I come there for and started having doubts about all this residency thing.
Then, I met people. Just a few. But really good ones.
Days started to fly away as the sun finally decided to glow. Spring exploded around me. Everything looked different when green replaced snow white and muddy brown. And yes, the landscape is beautiful. But what makes it really beautiful is the people who greet you every time you cross their way, the people who let you into their home and offer you dinner (or lunch :), the people who are happy to show you the place around or to take you to the theater, the people who invite you on a boat ride, the people who tell you about raccoons while painting frames, the people who guide you in the forest, the people who give you an extra croissant every time you buy one, the people who show you enough trust to let you photograph them.
I don’t know yet what will be the photographic result of my stay in Lendava, I’ve just sent my films for developing today. What I know is that I met wonderful people that made me feel accepted in their little community and this is the reason why I would come back to Lendava.
