My work for this exhibition was built around my interest in using unstretched canvas as a starting point and the contradictions that arise from leaving areas unprimed combined with a pastel and fluro colour palette. I aim to create feeling in the viewer through my work, exploring notions of self doubt and belief. This is established in the contrast between the fluro and soft pastel colour palette against the raw material surface area and discarded easily dispensable objects which are mass produced. As they create the sense that they are fighting for your attention.
The soft pastels and fluro colours offer a sense of the illusory or fantasy realm and the linen and found objects are the underlying reality in which lies problems and the endless need to question. The inclusion of surface texture is important, as the brush marks or poorly cut often ripped fabrics offer the viewer a sense of the real, the intangible, the human hand at work.
