Here at D’CLINIC, I have been working and developing multiple projects. My studio based practice explores personal issues (yet seemingly universal) that have come to light in the time I have been here on the residency. I have made films, sculptures and drawings to work through these issues and am still not yet sure how they will develop as entire pieces of work.
I also have been investigating how we Progress in society and how we get caught up with this idea of having to achieve something to be successful as human beings within Western society.
– moving into a higher powered position in a company could be called Progress
– being able to recover from an illness could be called Progress
– walking down the street may be considered Progress
I made a performance of walking around Lendava with a sign saying Progress (created to look like a sign you would see on entering a town in Slovenia). Being physically in the place Progress questions how and why we define it. For me, being in this place of Progress, I no longer have this need to always have to be somewhere, do something, and achieve something. Progress is a place where you can just be. A nomadic place.
I have been searching how an artist can create things or situations to challenge ways that we behave or respond as people. UNANSWERED QUESTIONS was installed in Color Arts Fesztival, Zalaegerszeg – HU. This was an opportunity for any member of the public to come and submit a question – any question – to which I am making responses through letters and making objects/sculptures. Both of these projects have the ability to continue in different countries and places – to create have this sense of a universal searching, usually for meaning in life but to also show the humour and expansive mind of human beings.
