MARIA PETUKHOVA

PORTRAITS : Maria Petukhova
photography

I like working in the open space with daylight. I like real nature because it’s so pure and clean and it gives you a lot of opportunities for realization of your ideas. I often add lots of made-up elements in my pictures. Making things unusual – is what I’m interested in. There is some inconsistency in my work such as nature and made-up elements but I think that disparity is the only right way for me while in creative research.

I don’t feel a need to create something complicated and too conceptual. This will not do for a simple and natural place like Lendava. I just want to gather a portrait of the place from particular elements, to make a text from separate phrases…”

Maria Petukhova is an emerging photographer born in 1988 in a small town in the east of Russia; however most of her childhood she spent in Krasnodar, a city in the south of the country. She graduated in publishing in 2010. After university she moved to Saint-Petersburg, to follow her art dream. Despite her young age, she already participated in several outstanding exhibitions, including Russian museum’s first photo biannual’09.
