DESCRIPTION OF CHANGING CONDITIONS : Shanna Maurizi
photography

The world is very active, it doesn’t just sit around waiting to be described. There are problems of description. What can’t be seen, can be described.
In this project I’m working within a symbolic vocabulary of spheres, pyramids, and mathematical diagrams, translating and replicating them as persistent objects. Here, the sphere is constantly approaching, like the planet behind the sun or counter-earth of fringe science. It is perhaps a sun in another solar system, or our own nearing its death. This basic form migrates, it floats, or fades, or vibrates with color. It’s a point of light, an object in a telescope, or a lantern in a cave.

In my work I’m interested in the unknown and its description, realized in drawing, altered photographs and collage, and short film and video.
