D’CLINIC IS A
PARTNER PLATFORM FOR : :

SHARE IDEAS, GET FEEDBACK, EXPAND. HAVE FUN.

SHOVEL
Do you have an exciting project and need a gallery to show it?
Are you seeking stimulation for your creative mind?
Would you like to get an insight into the art scene in Eastern Europe?

Shovel is known as an instrument for lifting or scooping loose material; this artists-in-residence framework is to help you focus, gather and re-consider your existing artistic/creative thinking. “Test” your ideas within a new context, within a larger frame than your own studio.

This self directed creative programme offers you a unique unconventional approach to play with innovative ideas, experiment with different techniques or modes of production, and boost your creative network.

We support experimentation and originality and therefore give voice to works that otherwise have nowhere else to be produced or displayed.

WHY SHOVEL:

+ unconventional approach to artistic creation
+ show your work to the public
+ stimulate your creative mind with a little rivalry
+ theoretical and intellectual growth through interaction with a peer group
+ conducive & flexible indoor/outdoor places for art-making

GOALS & MISSION

+ to encourage critical reflection among both art users and creators
+ to increase access to contemporary art in provincial areas
+ to promote artistic mobility
+ to expose artists to diverse, challenging experiences
+ to open a bridge connecting foreign artists with artists from Eastern Europe
SET-UP

The idea behind SHOVEL artist-in residence platform is as follows: we’d like to foster your artistic thinking by inviting you to engage in an unconventional creative challenge.

After an open call for submissions we’ll select projects that will get an opportunity to be developed, completed and presented within D’CLINIC studios. However, in harmony with SHOVEL’s main objective, that is to encourage critical reflection among both Art “users” as well as Art creators, it is our visitors/users that have the privilege to choose which of the projects will culminate into a solo exhibition and which to be published as a catalogue. (see OUTCOME)

We are looking for innovative, fresh body of work that will upon selection be produced during a four-week residency at D’CLINIC.

+ Your plans however do not have to be ‘engraved to stone’ so you may change/adapt them later if you want.

DETAILED OVERVIEW OF OUR FACILITIES & EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE >>>

IN SHORT

what we have: a (gallery) space, enthusiasm and other expertise for new (experimental) art production
what we need: artists with ideas and willingness to work within unusual settings and a desire to share their knowledge

+ in 2015 our official exhibition venue partner was VMK – Gönczi Gallery / Zalaegerszeg, Hungary

OUTCOME

SHOVEL is an experiment; a four-week production residency at D’CLINIC studios culminating in either a solo exhibition or a publication of a project catalogue.

SHOVEL’s main objective is to encourage critical reflection / discussion among both Art “users” as well as Art creators; thus it is our visitors or users that have the privilege to choose which of the presented projects should be executed as an exhibition and which to be published as a book.

HOW DOES IT WORK:

Throughout a 4 week stay at our studio you will develop a new artistic project or body of work (or simple upgrade the idea you proposed while applying to the programme). We will document your progress and help you share your work with the public. At a certain point of the residency the developed projects/exhibition ideas will be subject to public voting for the 2 rewards:

+ SOLO SHOW OF THE COMPLETED WORK (view the 2015 SHOVEL exhibition)
+ PUBLICATION OF A PROJECT CATALOGUE
